Scaffolding in High Wycombe

High Wycombe sits in a steep chalk valley in the Chilterns, about forty minutes from our yard at Enslow. The ground here is the job. Half the town is built on a slope, and a scaffold that would take an hour to set out on the flat takes considerably longer when nothing is level.

Sloping ground is the thing that catches people out

High Wycombe runs along the bottom of a valley with housing climbing both sides. On a sloping site every standard needs its own base level, which means stepped foundations, adjustable base plates and often raking to get a square working lift out of unsquare ground. It is slower to erect and it needs designing rather than eyeballing. The scaffolds that go wrong around here are the ones somebody quoted off a photograph. We come and look.

The old furniture factories

Wycombe made chairs for the country and the Victorian factory buildings are still here, largely converted to flats and offices. Tall brick elevations, restricted rear access and occupied throughout — the access has to work around residents.

Totteridge, Micklefield & Terriers

Estates set into the valley sides. Extensions, loft conversions, re-roofs and solar, nearly all of it on ground that falls away. Stepped bases and raking are routine rather than exceptional.

Downley, Hazlemere & Flackwell Heath

The villages on the tops — larger properties, more detached stock, better access, and a steady run of extensions, re-roofs and chimney work.

Cressex & the M40 corridor

Cressex Business Park and the industrial estates off junction 4. Commercial and industrial access on units that stay trading while we work.

Chilterns National Landscape

A good deal of the area sits inside the Chilterns National Landscape, the designation formerly known as the Chilterns AONB. It does not stop work, but it does tighten what is acceptable on visible elevations and it can add conditions you would not get elsewhere. Worth knowing before the design is fixed rather than after.

Who you need a licence from

Buckinghamshire Council has been a unitary authority since 2020, so the same body handles the highway licence and the planning side. One application rather than two. If the scaffold is going on a footway or a road, tell us early — the licence is usually what sets the start date, not us.

What we put up here

  • Domestic — extensions, loft conversions, re-roofs, chimneys, rendering and solar.
  • Sloping and stepped sites — designed bases rather than guesswork.
  • Conversions — long-duration access on former factory buildings.
  • Commercial and industrial — occupied units along the M40 corridor.
  • Temporary roofs — weather protection spanning up to 40 metres, craned in or on a rolling track.

How we work

Free site visit and a written quotation stating the hire period. CISRS-qualified scaffolders working to TG20 and SG4. RAMS and a job-specific toolbox talk before work starts. Statutory inspections at least every seven days while the scaffold is in use. Advanced CHAS accredited, and Oxfordshire Prestige Awards Scaffold Company of the Year four years running.

We cover the rest of Buckinghamshire — including Aylesbury and Milton Keynes — and across Oxfordshire.
