Scaffolding in Buckingham

Buckingham is ten miles from our yard at Enslow. The old county town of Buckinghamshire, rebuilt in brick and stone after the fire of 1725, with the Great Ouse looping round three sides of it. Georgian frontages, a university, and a river that decides what you can stand on.

The Great Ouse wraps round the town

The river loops almost the whole way round the old centre, and a surprising number of properties back onto it or sit within the flood plain. Two consequences. Ground bearing changes with the season — what carries a loaded standard in July will not in January, so we sole-board and spread properly rather than assuming. And anything with an elevation over the water needs designing and agreeing rather than improvising. If your job backs onto the Ouse, say so when you ring; it changes how we quote it.

Market Hill & the Georgian core

Rebuilt after the 1725 fire and largely listed. Frontages on the pavement, highway licence every time, soft lime mortar that takes ties in the joints rather than through the face.

The Old Gaol & town centre

Heritage buildings in regular use, often with the public coming and going underneath. Access that has to be designed around opening hours, not around our convenience.

University & student property

The University of Buckingham and the rented stock around it. Work that has to be timed to term dates and finished when it says it will be, because the tenancy does not move.

Stowe & the villages

Stowe, Maids Moreton, Padbury, Gawcott and Tingewick. Stone cottages, thatch, listed estate buildings and barn conversions, where getting a wagon in is half the job.

Who you need a licence from

Buckinghamshire Council has been a unitary authority since 2020, so the highway licence and the planning or listed building consent both come from one body. On a listed Market Hill frontage you will likely need both, and the consent takes longer than the scaffold does — start it early and we will work to whatever date it lands on.

What we put up here

  • Domestic — extensions, loft conversions, re-roofs, chimneys, repointing, rendering and solar.
  • Listed and conservation work — Georgian frontages, with ties into joints and loadings checked.
  • Riverside and flood plain — base design that accounts for the ground actually being there in winter.
  • Thatch and stone re-roofs — long-duration access in the villages.
  • Temporary roofs — weather protection spanning up to 40 metres, craned in or on a rolling track.

How we work

Free site visit and a written quotation stating the hire period. CISRS-qualified scaffolders working to TG20 and SG4. RAMS and a job-specific toolbox talk before work starts. Statutory inspections at least every seven days while the scaffold is in use. Advanced CHAS accredited, and Oxfordshire Prestige Awards Scaffold Company of the Year four years running.

We cover the rest of Buckinghamshire — Milton Keynes, Aylesbury and Bletchley — plus Brackley and Bicester nearby.
