Scaffolding in Bletchley
Bletchley is about forty minutes from our yard at Enslow. It sits inside Milton Keynes but it is not new town stock — Bletchley, Fenny Stratford and Water Eaton were here long before the grid roads arrived, and the housing shows it. That mix is what makes the work here different from the rest of MK.

Most of Milton Keynes is detached and semi-detached stock from the seventies onwards with generous side access. Bletchley is largely not. You get Victorian and Edwardian railway terraces, inter-war semis and post-war council housing, much of it with no side gate at all — so the scaffold comes through the house, board by board, with the floors protected and the job taking twice as long to set out as the quote suggests if nobody looked first.
Then there is the grid. Access to a Bletchley street is through the grid road system, and the nearest grid road is frequently not where you would park a wagon. On the estates between the grid squares, the service roads are narrow with parking both sides. We work out the approach before the day rather than finding out at seven in the morning.
Fenny Stratford & old Bletchley
Victorian terraces and the older High Street stock, some of it listed, with the Grand Union Canal running alongside. Pavement frontages, highway licences and through-house access as standard.
Water Eaton & Far Bletchley
Inter-war and post-war estates. Re-roofs, chimneys, rendering, over-cladding and solar, often in planned programmes across runs of similar properties.
Bletchley Park
Heritage buildings on a nationally significant site. Listed structures, visitor access to work around and conservation requirements that dictate how things are fixed and how visible the access is allowed to be.
Denbigh & the industrial estates
Retail parks and working units along the Watling Street corridor. Commercial and industrial access on premises that stay open and trading.
Who you need a licence from
Milton Keynes City Council is a unitary authority, so the highway licence and planning both come from the same body. Anything on or over the Grand Union Canal also needs the Canal & River Trust. The grid roads themselves carry their own restrictions, so a job that needs a wagon standing on one takes more notice than a residential street.
What we put up here
- Domestic — extensions, loft conversions, re-roofs, chimneys, rendering and solar.
- Terraced access — through-house carry with floors and finishes protected.
- Heritage — listed and conservation work around visitor access.
- Commercial and industrial — occupied units along Watling Street.
- Temporary roofs — weather protection spanning up to 40 metres, craned in or on a rolling track.

If there is no side access, say so when you ring. It changes the price and we would rather know.
