Scaffolding in Brackley
Brackley is nine miles from our yard — closer to us than most of Oxford is. A Georgian market town with one of the widest high streets in the country, a serious motorsport engineering base on its edge, and a single unitary council that makes the paperwork easier than anywhere in Oxfordshire.

Brackley’s High Street is unusually broad — it was laid out for markets and droving — and it is lined with Georgian and earlier frontages, a great many of them listed, sitting hard against the pavement. The width is deceptive. There is room, but the pavements are busy, the parking runs down both sides, and the buildings are old stone and soft lime mortar that will not take a modern anchor wherever you fancy putting one. Ties go into joints, loadings get checked, and the licence gets applied for early because on a listed frontage you may need consent alongside it.
The High Street & Town Hall
Georgian stone frontages, listed and conservation area, straight onto a busy pavement. Highway licence every time, fixings into mortar joints, and a pedestrian route that has to stay open past the shops.
Motorsport & engineering
Brackley sits in the motorsport corridor and the engineering units on the edge of town reflect it. Industrial access on working facilities with security, induction and confidentiality taken seriously — we turn up, do the job and do not photograph anything.
The newer estates
Brackley has grown considerably, and the estates on the Banbury and Buckingham roads are now coming up for their first extensions, loft conversions and solar. Tight plots and block paving that will not take a loaded wagon.
The surrounding villages
Syresham, Whitfield, Evenley, Croughton and the rest — stone cottages, thatch, barn conversions and farm buildings, where the access matters more than the height.
One council, and it is not Oxfordshire
Brackley is in Northamptonshire even though it is a stone’s throw from the Oxfordshire border, and West Northamptonshire Council is a unitary authority. One body for the highway licence and for planning and listed building consent — rather than the county-and-district split you get the moment you cross back towards Banbury. In practice it means fewer phone calls and a quicker answer, which matters on a High Street job.
What we put up here
- Domestic — extensions, loft conversions, re-roofs, chimneys, repointing, rendering and solar.
- Listed and conservation work — High Street frontages, with ties into joints and loadings checked.
- Industrial — engineering and motorsport facilities, under induction and in confidence.
- Barn and farm buildings — village conversions where the ground is as much of a problem as the structure.
- Temporary roofs — weather protection spanning up to 40 metres, which on a stone or thatch re-roof is not optional.
