Scaffolding in Dunstable
Dunstable sits under the chalk escarpment of the Dunstable Downs, where two Roman roads cross. About fifty minutes from our yard at Enslow. It is a working town with a mix of medieval core, post-war estates and heavy industrial stock — and a crossroads that complicates almost every town centre job.

Watling Street and the Icknield Way meet in the middle of Dunstable and both are still main roads. If your job fronts onto High Street North, High Street South, Church Street or West Street, the scaffold is going up beside moving traffic on a route that cannot simply be closed. That means a proper traffic management plan, often footway closure with a signed pedestrian diversion, and occasionally night or weekend working to get the erection done. None of it is difficult, but it has to be designed and agreed in advance — and it is the single most common reason a Dunstable job starts late.
The Priory & town centre
The Priory Church of St Peter is Norman and listed, and the streets around it are old, tight and conservation area. Frontages on the pavement, highway licence every time, and fixings into mortar joints rather than face stone.
Downside, Beecroft & Icknield
Post-war and later estates making up most of the housing. Re-roofs, chimneys, rendering, over-cladding and solar — often as planned programmes across several properties rather than one at a time.
Under the Downs
Properties on the chalk escarpment and the lanes running up it. Sloping sites that need stepped bases and raking, and chalk ground that behaves well dry and considerably less well after a wet fortnight.
Woodside & the industrial estates
Dunstable has a long industrial history and the estates are still busy. Industrial access on units that keep running, with vehicle movements dictating how we phase the work.
Who you need a licence from
Central Bedfordshire Council is a unitary authority, so the highway licence and the planning side come from the same body — one application, one contact. Worth knowing that the main routes through town carry their own traffic restrictions on top of the licence itself, so a High Street job needs more notice than a side street.
What we put up here
- Domestic — extensions, loft conversions, re-roofs, chimneys, rendering and solar.
- Main road frontages — with traffic management and pedestrian diversion designed in.
- Sloping sites — stepped bases on the escarpment, not guesswork.
- Commercial and industrial — occupied units across the Woodside estates.
- Temporary roofs — weather protection spanning up to 40 metres, craned in or on a rolling track.
How we work
Free site visit and a written quotation stating the hire period. CISRS-qualified scaffolders working to TG20 and SG4. RAMS and a job-specific toolbox talk before work starts. Statutory inspections at least every seven days while the scaffold is in use. Advanced CHAS accredited, and Oxfordshire Prestige Awards Scaffold Company of the Year four years running.
We cover the rest of Bedfordshire — including Leighton Buzzard just up the road — and across into Buckinghamshire.
